Meanwhile for the very first time Uganda has qualified a team for 4 x 400m Mix Relays to the World Athletics Relays to take place 10th – 11th May 2025 in Guangzhou China.
The team entered for the prestigious event comprises entirely of home based athletes who were responsible for this qualification as follows
- Godfrey Chan Wengo – Ndejje University
- Maureen Akiiki Banura – Uganda Police
- Adoli Haron – Uganda Prisons
- Shida Leni – Uganda Police
The team was able to achieve this historic feat after a series of trials during our National trails in Namboole and later in the Kenyan Selection trials in Nyayo Stadiun where they ran a time of 3:19.93 giving them a chance of qualification by ranking.
Enroute to their qualification Shida Leni rewrote the Women’s 400m National record to 51.25 bettering her own previous time of 51.47 achieved in Kampala in 2019, and Adoli Haron achieved a Seasonal best performance in the Men’s 400m of 45.72 in Botswana
The reopening of Namboole National Stadium has been a great blessing to our home-based athletes leading to general improvement of athletes performance and discovery of new talents
As Uganda Athletics Federation celebrates 100 Years of existence under the theme ‘ ‘Celebrating and Sustaining Athletics Excellence, we have certainly had a great start to our Athletics Season so far.
