Ugandan Legend Jacob Kiplimo Claims Historic Third Consecutive Gold in Senior Men’s 10km at World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Florida, USA

Jacob Kiplimo etched his name into the history books once again today, securing gold in the senior men’s 10km race at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships held at Apalachee Regional Park. The Ugandan superstar delivered a masterful performance, crossing the line in a commanding 28:18 to claim his third consecutive senior world cross country title—a feat that places him among an elite group including legends John Ngugi, Paul Tergat, and Kenenisa Bekele.

Kiplimo, the Olympic 10,000m bronze medallist from Tokyo 2020 and recent Chicago Marathon champion, bided his time early in the race before unleashing a devastating surge in the final stages. He opened up an 18-second gap on the final lap alone, leaving Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi (28:36, silver for the third straight year) and Kenya’s Daniel Simiu Ebenyo (28:45, bronze) in his wake.

This triumph marks Kiplimo’s fifth World Championship gold medal overall (including his U20 title in 2017) and underscores Uganda’s growing dominance in distance running. His victory also contributed to Uganda’s best-ever medal haul at the championships—seven medals total, including two golds—despite Ethiopia edging out Kenya for the senior men’s team title (Ethiopia 30 points, Kenya 34, Uganda 39).
