Uganda Team departs for World U20 Championship

The Uganda National Athletics Team is set to depart tonight, Sunday, for the World U20 Championships scheduled to take place from 4th to 9th August 2026 in Eugene, United States.

The contingent will leave Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 11:00 p.m. The team, which has been undergoing a one-month residential training camp in Kaptagat, Kenya, comprises four women and seven men.

Women’s Team:

  1. Cherop Charity (3000m / 5000m)
  2. Chekwemoi Felister (1500m)
  3. Cherotwo Baskaline (1500m)
  4. Yeko Bantaline (3000m / 5000m)

Men’s Team:

  1. Cherotich Abraham (3000m)
  2. Kipyeko Dan (3000m)
  3. Kibet Michael (5000m)
  4. Murungi Shafiek (800m)
  5. Chelogoi Daniel (1500m)
  6. Kwemboi Jeremiah (3000m Steeplechase)
  7. Andiema Solomon (5000m)

The athletes will be accompanied by three officials: Team Manager Namayo Mawerere, and coaches; Immaculate Chemutai and Jimmy Adar (who also serves as the team physiotherapist).

Coach Immaculate Chemutai expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, stating that they have prepared thoroughly and are optimistic about their performance in Eugene.

Namayo Mawerere, Publicity Secretary of Uganda Athletics (UA), also voiced strong confidence in the squad’s potential. “This team is capable of challenging the best in the world. I believe the team can raise Uganda’s flag high,” he said.
