The Anti doping Education seminar for athletes and support personnel has concluded in Kampala after a one-day high quality engagement sessions
The positive sessions brought together 40 athletes, 16 coaches and five UA Executive Board Members from Central Region of Uganda.
The seminar was conceived by UA as a platform to educate and address worldwide fight against doping violations threatening the sport.
Conducted by UA, the participants were taken through presentations about the World Anti doping Code, doping control
Processes, testing pools and whereabouts, prohibited list of substances and methods used by violators.
Other topics covered also included dangers and consequences of doping, rights and responsibilities of an athlete and Anti Doping Education and Learning platform (ADEL).
The positive responses and lively engagement especially by the athletes demonstrated the crave for knowledge and education about ANTI-DOPING which was evidently missing in their athletics career pathways.
The education triggered huge enthusiasm with strong demand from participants to UA to organise regular educative seminars.
Closing the seminar, UA President Domenic Otucet said UA was deeply concerned about issues of doping and consequently Ugandan athletes winning fairly.
In that regard also highlighted need to protect and better Uganda’s rating by World Athletics (WA).
“The seminar demonstrates how UA values the importance of anti doping protocols. Am glad to see the attendance of many elite athletes.
“I now commission all of you to propagate the anti-doping messaged from this seminar to the rest of the athletics fraternity in the country,” he said.
UA has deliberate program to execute similar Anti-doping seminars in the eleven regions of Uganda.
